When I came upon a survey stating that the arrival of Internet had affected the libraries in a bad manner,I am happy that I am living in India where the Internet has not caught that much with the elder
generation who are still obsessed with their good Old Library. The younger generation and the future generation have found the Internet and the search engines an easier way to gather information. This has reflected in the absence of avid readers of this generation in local libraries and some libraries have even started closing down.
Friends lets accept the fact that Internet and the Technology of today has made our lives of today entirely different from that of yesterday. But just as newspapers,Libraries should also be preserved and promoted in whatever sort of era,we may be in.
Well the libraries are not that user friendly like the Internet, but the libraries give you something to think upon, whereas the Internet determines your thought streams with more than enough information.Just as little knowledge, excess knowledge is also a dangerous thing. While the libraries make you spend a little more time and energy for searching, they also dont spoil your eyes and health, and of course there are no pop ups when you open a book in library.
The only thing that goes in favour of Internet is the interactiveness. But you can promote the same in the libraray by arranging frequent book reviews, readers get togethers etc.
I dont mean to say that Internet should be avoided.I want to say that the libraries should not be avoided at the cost of Internet.Your life should have a harmonious mix of library and Internet, and if you gain knowledge that way,you will be a tough chap to beat.
